Small Victory

I have going to the same dentist for six years. The office is not accessible though. But I have managed to get by with just my cane. However last year it was not enough. I just couldn't get to the exam room. I looked around and spotted an office chair and they used it like a wheelchair. A nice hack at the last minute.

This year I didn't want a repeat so when I called to make an appointment I reminded them of last year's episode. I asked if they had considered getting a wheelchair for the office. They put me on hold for a couple of minutes. When they came back I was informed that they just ordered one and we set up my appointment.

All I had to do was ask.

  1. Wow! That is so cool, ! We read so many stories about people who are frustrated that doctors and dentists are apathetic when it comes to the needs of patients who have disabilities. It is heartwarming to read about one who was responsive. Just think about what a difference you have made for patients in that practice, simply by asking. It's a great lesson for all of us.       1. Way to go for self-advocating calmly, that's awesome, and their response was equally awesome! The longer I spend in this MS journey, the more I realize that often times we have to ask for our needs to be met and teach folks (with patience and kindness) how to better support us. And, quite often they're happy to learn (that's a win win for everyone, for you, for them, and for the next person who may need this.
